Affirmation

Affirmation. The exercise for this week was to affirm that we are an author, and then post a video supporting that. It was hard for me to even take in the fact that I am writing. I guess up until now I just really wasn’t considering myself an author. An author is a person who has a successful book on the New York Bestseller list, selling millions of copies. That’s not me. I haven’t published one word yet.

Then I started thinking. I have written a lot over my lifetime. I have not only written college papers, grants, lesson plans, programs, plays, devotionals, and presentations, but I have written stories in my diaries that no one else has ever read. Why would I not consider myself an author?

Why is it that we don’t consider ourselves anything until we have reach a certain level of what others think of as success? Why do we not celebrate the starting of something as a step in the right direction? A beginning of something bigger, that may even go in a direction that we did not anticipate? The fulfillment is just the conclusion of us believing in ourselves enough to try. If this message has been put in me to share with the world, then don't I need to share it with them? Share it not just for me, but for them too!

Our writing mentor says that it is good for us to do this exercise of making a video and introducing ourselves as authors. Once we hear it from our own voice, we start to believe that what we are doing is going to not just change us, but change others too. When I posted the video in our “tribe,” I apologize for it not being great. Kary told me not to apologize because I had taken action, and that is the first step.

I know that I am still in the planning stage, and some days it is hard to focus because I have bits and pieces of the puzzle that are coming in my mind of how the story is going to fit together, but I have also set some deadlines so that I can stay on track. I hope to have a rough draft by the end of December 2018. Then start on edits and marketing plan in January. I should have the finished product by the end of May so that I can launch during my birthday week next June. It would be a great present for my 55th birthday!

So I need my readers to keep me going! Remind me that I set a goal to have this done! I will keep giving content away through my blog so that you can read what I am doing. This week I would like to share my “I Am An Author” video. It does give a little more information on my book and what I hope to achieve with its content. Enjoy!
